About me and cooking low FODMAP
Hi, my name’s Louisa Reid. I’m a gastroenterology specialist dietitian with many years of experience in advising patients on the Low FODMAP diet. I live and work in the Western Isles, Scotland with my husband and two children.
I graduated with a BSc (Hons) degree in Nutrition and Dietetics in 2000 and have worked for the past 22 years as dietitian for the NHS. In 2013 I completed the King’s College London FODMAP training course for registered dietitians and since then I’ve advised many patients on the diet and seen some incredible results. I’m also an enthusiastic home cook and enjoy experimenting with existing recipes, making them healthier and developing my own.
I find that patients are often worried about what they can cook when they start the low FODMAP diet. It can be hard to imagine not using onions, garlic, wheat, ready made stock etc… Most people really appreciate having some recipe ideas to help them follow the diet correctly, especially in the early days when the diet needs to be followed strictly before moving on to the the re-introduction phase. So I created this website to hopefully make things a bit easier for people following the full elimination phase of the diet and show how everyday meals can be made low FODMAP but also tasty and healthy. There is no reason why the food you cook should be bland or flavourless if you’re cutting out the FODMAPs, you just need to think about flavouring things a bit differently. I’ll show you how in my low FODMAP recipes.
Please note that the low FODMAP diet is specifically for managing IBS-type symptoms and is not a diet for improving general health. A lot of the foods that are restricted on the low FODMAP diet are actually very healthy and should only be avoided if they trigger symptoms. Read more about FODMAPs.
Hopefully you’ll find some inspiration and ideas here. To contact me directly you can email louisamreid@gmail.com.
